Pretty Ladies Making Planes








These photos come from the Library of Congress' collection of photos from the Office of War Information. Thanks to Joculum's livejournal page for posting the original link. There's over 1600 incredible color photos from the 1930's - 40's, and if you have a couple hours to spare, they're well worth checking out.

Okay, I understand that the photographer told the woman in picture 2, "Turn your body to the camera, honey!" (I'm sure he called her honey), but how in the hell do you drill if your body is in that position? That can't be comfortable.

The jaunty thrust of her hip is what I love about that photo.

I just like to imagine these as coming from another world, in which pin-up art consists of capable-looking ladies working with power tools.
