Pictures Of Fireworks Celebrating The Death Of Jesse Helms

On Friday there were fireworks demonstrations in New York celebrating the death of former Senator Jesse Helms. The fireworks were no doubt symbolic of the eternal torment that Senator Helms is now suffering in Hell, in addition to being really really pretty.

Although any obituary for Jesse Helms will make me smile, this one made me laugh out loud. When I wasn't shaking my head in disgust at what a despicable human being he was.

Jessie Helms died? How did I miss that?

I just googled his name, and this quote came up:
"Dr. (Martin Luther) King's outfit ...... is heavily laden at the top with leaders of proven records of communism, socialism and sex perversion, as well as other curious behavior" Charming.

This is from the New York Times::
"Jesse Helms, the former North Carolina Senator whose courtly manner and mossy drawl barely masked a hard-edged conservatism that opposed civil rights, gay rights, foreign aid and modern art, died July 4, 2008. He was 86."

Or, as my boss just said, "It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy." Amen.

Carol - Yeah, that's a great editorial. What amazes me are the "if you can't say anything nice about someone..." comments, which strike me as tacit approval of Helms' loathsome behavior masquerading as politeness.

Julie - yes, the smiley face certainly expresses how I feel!

Erin - I read that first quote quickly and thought that Helms was criticizing MLK's clothes. His "outfit is laden at the top"? Another pun pitfall...

The fireworks were lovely...no matter what the reason.
